Automatic 20-day extension

Here is some welcome relief for defendants in the Eastern District of Louisiana:

Considering the extraordinarily high volume of new civil cases being filed in this court and the steps required for electronic processing of these new cases,

IT IS HEREBY ORDERED that the time to file responsive pleadings in those cases filed on or after October 1, 2006 is hereby automatically extended for a period of 20 days from the date of electronic entry of the original complaint or removal documents, or from the time the responsive pleadings would otherwise be due, whichever is later.

New Orleans, Louisiana, this 24th day of October, 2006.

[Signed]
Helen G. Berrigan, Chief Judge
U.S. District Court
